i found an article by American Federation of the Blind on what Adobe was doing in next generation documents for accessibility. Maybe, by making a format of file with things easier to do, guys who make programs to produce pdf’s will make it easy to make an update that easily lets one author an accessible document. Perhaps font preambles with text…[Read more]

    Real Customer Support

I have been using 1Password for several years. It has worked fine and been a very convenient program to have on my iMac. Now that my wife has an iPad and I just got a new iPhone4 I thought it would be useful to have 1Password and all my logins on those two units also. iPassword recommends installing and using DropBox to do…[Read more]

    • I love drop box and have used it for years. One thing to note is your uploads are not instantly available. Seems to be an hour between when you post to the site and the file becomes available to download. I have extremely fast internet, so it’s not my upload time. It’s their service dragging feet on file availability. I do use a free account,…[Read more]

    Hello,
I would like to install OSX 10.5 on a hd to run older software. Does anyone know where I could get it? I don’t see it on Apples site anymore.

I bought an iPhone 4 (didn’t think Siri was worth the additional $100.) I have read the Guide. I still have a question.
FaceTime is listed in the Settings section – but there is no icon for it on the Home pages [nor in the dock]. Where is the icon or hoiw to get one to the Home pages?

    • Martin, there is no icon for it.

If I were to call you and request to FaceTime with you, it will show up on your phone as a FaceTime phone call. In addition, when you call someone who has the ability to FaceTime, a button to start FaceTime will show up when calling that person.

There is no lone app for FaceTime.

    • you can get EVI for 99cents and she is similar in many ways to Siri. Best of all she works on your regular iPhone 4.

Is there likely to be an iPhone 5 SOON?!

    • Martin,

I don’t expect to see the next iPhone until late next summer. That’s about the time most of them launch. iPads launch in late spring. iPods in Fall. ..and so on.

Here’s a small problem, but very annoying.
On my wife’s e mail, when the ”send deleted messages to Trash” is checked in preferences,
and a mail is deleted, a sign comes up and says ”mail may not be sent to ”Trash___ Tan”
This is the only account this happens to and I cannot figure what to change so it will accept mail.
This trash basket is grayed…[Read more]

    • When did this start? Anything change or got added around that time?

      • My wife was not in the habit of emptying her trash. She decided to clean things up and emptied the trash in two mailboxes. After that she could not send anything to the trash from her two account mailboxes. She could not remember doing anything else different to the account or mailbox. My account mailbox, on the same page, works fine. This…[Read more]

I have a major problem I need advice and help with.
2 months ago my entire address book was hijacked and an e mail sent out using my address with my wife’s name to about 450 people, (many are even deceased).
it was an internet address for ads from Canada.
That was bad enough. but 2 days ago another e mail was sent to all these people with an…[Read more]

    • While a true “Virus” for the Mac is still mostly vaporware, trojans do exist.
      1. Go ahead and invest some time in CLAM XV or some other verified antivirus/malware program for the mac. You probably don’t need to use this 100% of the time, but in your case it will not be a bad idea.

Reset your browser and remove all history and cookies.…[Read more]

    • Bernard,

I see this often amongst those that use the free emails out there like Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, and sometimes gMail. Somehow a robot has hacked your account and starts spamming everyone in your address book. The best way to defeat this is to change your password of said email, like Allen said above, to something a bit stronger to crack.

      • Thank you Allen and Jonesy for the good advice. I did download the ClamXav and ran it on my computer and my wife’s. Mine had no infection but my wife’s had two “trojan downloads” it said.
I changed the e mail password on my computer. The same account the trojan used but I figure it came from her computer. Then I deleted that same…[Read more]

Thought I would share something. I was moving cables behind my computer with it powered on.

    Hello,
My extra, internal hard drive crashed. It was in my Mac Pro. The drive is a Maxtor, 320gb, out of warranty of course. I tried Disk Utility, but no dice. What do you suggest, take it to somewhere like Best Buy? Or anyone have software that could look at it?

    • David,

Is your crashed drive making any clicking or grinding sounds? If so, you may be looking at physical damage to the drive internals. If not, you may try something like Drive Genius for Mac.

Me.com. Is me.com going to stay? I asked because I heard that it might not because of iCloud

    • I think the days of me.com are numbered. Will be gone by August 2012

      • Thanks, I am trying to get away from my Verizon email and looking for a cool email address. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

        • I don’t think there is any chance that gmail will go anywhere and google has a lot to say for itself. Get yourself a gmail account.

        • On the other hand. iCloud accounts are free (until further notice) and as far as .me or .mac. Apple has never taken those away in the past. They just take away the ability to ask for a new one. I still have my Allen.yoder@mac.com and it works fine as does the .me one.

          • I did get a me account but am worried it will go away. I do appreciate the updates you sent. One odd thing is I get email at me on my iPad but don’t know my pass word. I just can’t loose my iPad. Do you think it is (my password) the same as my iTunes password ?

            • If you get a me.com account now, it will stick around even after the transition is over it seems. Same goes for .mac users before MobileMe took over. Not sure if they will introduce @icloud.com as an ending or not.

    • I read a few months ago that even though the me.com website was leaving, the me.com email addresses will still be able to be used after next year.

Several weeks ago there were some posts about a replacement program, i.e. iBank, for Quicken. At that time I was just trying out the iBank program and was not doing well with it. Now I am using it regularly and I have adapted to it! My major purpose in using such a program is to have a complete list of where I spent money for income tax purposes.…[Read more]

    • Martin, Why are you moving away from Quicken? I’ve used Quicken for the last 15 years or so and in general have been happy with it. I’m still using something like the 2005 version since I’ve had no reason to upgrade. I usually only do when I upgrade my machine.

      • Good Morning, I was planning to upgrade to LION. Quicken had sent a warning message that Quicken foor Mac 2007, which is what I was using, would no longer work or be supported. I went looking for a replacement and that is how I ended up with iBank. by the way – I have not yet installed LION!!!
