I wrote a rather lengthy encounter about acquiring and setting up my Mac Classic. If you like that kind of thing, you can read about it here: http://taxmantheblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-take-on-vintage-mac.html

That’s what I thought John, I was intrigued with your presentation of the apple TV a while ago and ordered a refurbished one from apple the other day. When it comes in I want to experiment with it and the airport express I use on my home theater receiver to watch movies and TV. I was hoping to get the name of a few interested techies who can…[Read more]

Any of our members into Home Theater P C using a mac mini? I am interested in dropping ATT Uverse and moving to a mini DVR for off the air and possibly Netflicks for movies. Are there any knowledgeable people to explore these things with?

Rodney,
I find that Internet video sites pretty much offer everything you could ever want. Netflix and Vudu are great for movies and television shows while using your browser to watch Hulu allows you to watch most TV shows the next day after they air. With over the air recording, you’d have almost everything. A Mac Mini with legato hardware for…[Read more]

Back to Lion, now that it’s here. Having installed it, I discovered that besides several applications that won’t work now (I know, I’m stupid for not waiting), my Epson all-in-one doesn’t work at all. There are no new Lion drivers on Software Update, although Epson implies that there are. An Epson person told me on the phone that it was…[Read more]

What is the model number of your Epson printer?
-
It’s an all-in-one Epson Stylus PHOTO RX 600. Or if you mean the model number listed on the label on the back it’s C171B. The model is listed on those that should have Lion updates, but Software Update never lists it. And if the driver update is built-in to Lion, the bottom line is that the unit still does not scan. At Epson’s last suggestion,…[Read more]

The thought that it is Apple’s responsibility to make sure third party hardware works with their operating software disturbs me. Lion has been in build and beta for over a year and Epson could of updated their software by now to make things work. This just tells me they are not coding with current programming languages.
They list NO updates on…[Read more]

According to the Epson website, it says to add the printer in system preferences than run software update. They list your printer as supported.

(Jonesy: if you will send me an email that I can reply to, I will send you the screen shots mentioned below; unfortunately the seems to preclude that.
Jonesy,
To take your replies in order:
1. Actually, I didn’t believe the Epson spokesman the first time I heard him, and so I repeated what he said. Yes, he did say it was Apple’s responsibility…[Read more] -

Well over a year ago my nephew told me that the 4gig memory limit on my 2007 vintage iMac was myth and that the reason it was stated was that at the time of mfg, there were no larger chips. I half believed him because he had some memory that physically fit in my machine and it would boot and see the memory. However the memory my nephew supplied…[Read more]

The results are in and it’s an epic fail. Even with the exact spec on the memory the machine starts to craw, ” especially in graphics”, after warm up.
-
HUM, well I thought it over, did a little more reading and tried something slightly different. I put one new 4 gig chip in slot 1 and the older 2 gig in slot 2. Let the machine stew all night. Tested this morning and netflix, youtube and even live streaming sights run just fine now. So will ride this horse a little further and hope for the best.

Google+ users miffed over rules being strictly enforced. Under google’s TOS you must use a real name and not a pseudonym. Those whom google has caught have had their accounts terminated. Google+ is Google’s alternative to “FaceBook” and has been wildly popular. It’s still in beta and still by invitation only I think. I would be glad to try…[Read more]

10.6.7 woes,
Have any of you upgraded to 10.6.7 and had a few kernel Panics? After reseting pram and restarting about 8 times my machine now seems to be stable again. (Fingers crossed).
I also started with out fire wire drives attached and did a repair disk permissions before everything seemed happy again. - Load More

I wonder if you can upgrade to Snow Leopard but jump to Mountain Lion when it comes out?
